Abstract

Sensitive and secretory (parasympathetic) fibers form the intermediate nerve (n. intermedius) - the VIII pair of cranial nerves - a significant part pass along with the facial nerve. Lesions of the facial nerve are polyetiological (idiopathic, ischemic, otogenic, traumatic, etc.). In most cases, there is a unilateral lesion of the facial nerve. The frequency of bilateral neuropathy of the facial nerve (diplegia facialis) is about 6.2%.
